Switch Carbs Back to FI but do I have everything?
I want to put the FI Back on but need to make sure I have everything so here goes...I will put up pictures of what I have.
Here is a layout of everything
Harness (needs more cleaning)
Fuel pump one is wrapped but both are from years ago should I just get a new one?
Series resistors
Double Relay
What is this I cant remember...?
Thermo time switch
Aux Air Reg
Decel Valve
AFM I have two this is one of them anyone know where to get the seal/gasket that goes between this and the air cleaner?
Cold start
Intake Plenum
Intake S boot
Fuel Injectors...now here is something, these are injectors I got new because I was doing this build while I still had my bus running I didnt want to wait to have mine sent off for cleaning. When I unboxed them two matched and two did not, I heard that it didnt matter but I need to figure that out. I have to say this system was on my bus and running once. If you look at the second picture you will see the different injectors.
Intake runners
Aircooled.net SVDA not sure if I am going to put this back or keep my Mallory running
I think that is a lot but am I missing anything?

Re: Switch Carbs Back to FI but do I have everything?
I'd send the injectors out for cleaning and to see if the output is the same cc.

Out for cleaning they are basically brand new!
And if I remember correctly they had the same part number.

Re: Switch Carbs Back to FI but do I have everything?
yes, but do they flow the exact same cc's? I sent out a bag of 3 sets of 2.0L 914 injectors and then matched them in sets within 2cc. I did the Westy ones and they were close too.

Okay I will put that on the list to consider thank you.
Is that one unidentified piece a voltage regulator?

Re: Switch Carbs Back to FI but do I have everything?
A) Qty 4 injector rubber o-rings IF the ones in your intake runners show any hairline crackscheesehead wrote:I want to put the FI Back on but need to make sure I have everything..
B) Qty 4 intake runner sleeves
C) Qty 2 intake manifold gaskets [phenolic blocks with two paper gaskets already glued onto them (replacements usually are reddish)]
D) Qty 6 feet 7mm reinforced fuel injection hose to run from tank to fuel pressure regulator and to fuel filter
E) Proper size fuel injection hose clamps, 6 or so (you already have several)
F) Accelerator cable and sheath that runs from body to front tin
G) Accelerator cable barrel clamp (looks like a heater cable clamp) that goes in the throttle lever on your intake plenum
Check to see that the fuel pressure regulator has a 17mm nut screwed onto it, it is used to trap the regulator to the front tin
Can you verify (or photograph) that there is a square plug in the left front of the engine compartment with some wires leading to it
(red/blue goes to fuel pump location under bus)
(black goes to coil (+) via the reverse light fuse)
(red goes to battery eventually but hides in a vehicle harness)
(red/white goes to the starter solenoid)
Can you take a photograph of the exhaust from the left/right side between the exchanger and the muffler?
Good for you, cheesehead, I want to see your Westy run like a proper late-model bus.

Re: Switch Carbs Back to FI but do I have everything?
First do I need rubber bumpers for the air cleaner bracket?
Amskeptic wrote:A) Qty 4 injector rubber o-rings IF the ones in your intake runners show any hairline cracks
Yes they are new but may get a few extra in case we find a problem
B) Qty 4 intake runner sleeves
Yes
C) Qty 2 intake manifold gaskets [phenolic blocks with two paper gaskets already glued onto them (replacements usually are reddish)]
I believe these are what you mean and are good enough?
D) Qty 6 feet 7mm reinforced fuel injection hose to run from tank to fuel pressure regulator and to fuel filter
Yes
E) Proper size fuel injection hose clamps, 6 or so (you already have several)
Yes
F) Accelerator cable and sheath that runs from body to front tin
I have two of them 211 721 555AA but do any bus accelerator cables come with a sheath?
G) Accelerator cable barrel clamp (looks like a heater cable clamp) that goes in the throttle lever on your intake plenum
Thank you for reminding me of that I will...

Found one

Re: Switch Carbs Back to FI but do I have everything?
a) See if you can find something in the "help" aisle of your local auto parts houses. It is a grommet whose outside groove fits in the circle, the inside radius just goes around the "pin" cast on the air filter box.cheesehead wrote: a) do I need rubber bumpers for the air cleaner bracket?
b) do any bus accelerator cables come with a sheath?
c) square plug in the left front of the engine compartment
b) Naaaaw, that would cost our dear aftermarket suppliers their profits. Try our used bus purveyors:
Busted Bus
Interstate Parts
Bus Boys
. . . or improvise with lawn mower cables or bicycle cables or something.
c) Looks good!

Re: Switch Carbs Back to FI?
Rather than start a new thread, I'll add on to this one since I am doing the same thing as cheesehead in going back to FI from carbs (and I reside in the land of cheeseheads).
I'm at the point where I have the majority of the parts needed to begin assembling the components on my engine (currently out of the vehicle) and would like to ask some questions as I go.
First question is what to do about the FI grounds that attach under the air intake plenum if I do not have the 3-way ground spade connector installed? Is there an alternate method, or do I need to source the spade connector?

Go find a couple of ring terminal-with spades that can swallow the case bolt diameter. Or find simple ring terminals and just splice the wires to them and bolt them to the case. It is an easy place to improvise.

Re: Switch Carbs Back to FI but do I have everything?
Can anyone post a photo or provide explanation of how the thermo time switch is mounted? From what I can tell the bracket should attach to one of the case bolts. The Bentley doesn't provide that detail that I could find?

Re: Switch Carbs Back to FI but do I have everything?
Go to figure 6.5 in Fuel Injection. You can see the bracket with the little hole for the case bolt that is directly under #4 intake air runner. You need to backwrench the 13mm nut on the other side of the engine where the bolt has to go. That bolt is also holding up the intake plenum. A 13mm socket and extension for both sides is helpful.THall wrote:Can anyone post a photo or provide explanation of how the thermo time switch is mounted?
