I figured a single stripe/mark would be 1 & 3 (1 for 1?) and two stripes/marks for 2 & 4 (2 for 2?). But right now I'm feeling a serious brain drain.

I figured a single stripe/mark would be 1 & 3 (1 for 1?) (YES!) and two stripes/marks for 2 & 4 (2 for 2?) (YES!). But right now I'm feeling a serious brain drain. There is a cut notch on the edge of the pulley behind that painted single mark you see in the picture. And thank you on the plastic scale question. I'm discovering that I'm definitely a visual learner.

Single paint mark is always in line with the timing notch for TDC #1 and #3
See, a single mark IS divisible by both one and three.
The double paint mark is 180* away where both #2 and #4 are at TDC
See, a double mark is divisible by both two and four.
Fool-proof, isn't it?
