Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
Ya know there really isn't a point to this thread other than me doing things, then complaining about it. THE HUMAN CONDITION? Maybe the "bob" condition lower case b.
It will be a fine car. I'm reluctant to post pix because it's not done yet. Mysterious.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
Hey it looks like the gas line from the tank is dry. Must be a clogged tank filter.
John and I pulled the sender and the tank was clean and fresh.
Update: apparently cars need gasoline to run, who knew?
I can't believe I ran thru 2 gallons. The car ran less than 1/2 hour at idle, total. I guess a lot leaked out etc. while testing.
ANYWay, it did start and run OK. Still a slight hunt at idle but it could just the be F.I. working properly. I am glad it's not something serious.

When Sluggo and I were over the other day, did I or did I not tell you to PUT MORE GAS IN THE TANK...?

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
It drove today! Colin was the first pilot. A mad dash in the pause between showers, without windows, holding the doors closed. It's got pep.
And thanks to Kirk for showing up with bodywork tools and beer and good cheer. Man what a week, I need to go rest somewhere.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
"No rain" claims the weather-man. Bullshit, as it showers outside th window. It's a good thing I got done early.
I have been doing the last of the bodywork, and Bondo fun. A couple more hours and it will be officially ready for paint.
Need to find out if I can do it myself, and if the weather will break.
Monday-Tuesday:
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65.
Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 47.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 62.
Tuesday Night: Frogs.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
It's hard to find a local painter that will work for cheap or even do the job! Wasted my morning riding around my neighborhood.
Best I could find is Maaco at $400-500. Pretty spendy for a car without windows etc.

Too bad you don't know someone with a spray gun and garage.hambone wrote:It's hard to find a local painter that will work for cheap or even do the job! Wasted my morning riding around my neighborhood.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
Yeah, me. If only it would stop raining...
Well a Russian guy is coming over tomorrow to take a look and give me a quote. If that doesn't work out I may be painting it myself.

Like when you were a kid and didn't want mom to see your crayon picture until it was finished? That's kind of normal.hambone wrote:Ya know there really isn't a point to this thread other than me doing things, then complaining about it. THE HUMAN CONDITION? Maybe the "bob" condition lower case b.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
Found a very local shop that will do it for $350 labor, I supply the paint. Got a good vibe from the guy too. Looks like it will be next week before he can get to it.
I got a SHADY vibe from Maaco, like talking to an old school used car salesman. "HEYyyyy Paly"
They wouldn't even give me a firm quote on th phone, the scallywags.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
No, there's a point. I have a '71 Squareback in only somewhat better condition and I need your example to see me through when I tackle it, hopefully in the Spring.hambone wrote:Ya know there really isn't a point to this thread other than me doing things, then complaining about it.
And post more pictures!

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
More than zero pics? Yeah I gotta get working on it.
Did the final sanding today, pretty much ready for paint.
I gotta figure out why a fuse keeps blowing, get the wipers working, and remove the fresh air box and clean out crap.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
Crap cleaned out, all back together. Nice working with low mileage parts, everything goes back together so nicely.
I am at a loss about the electrical troubleshooting. All those wires, going willy-nilly in different directions, oh man where do you start??? I could seriously use a hand if someone can spare an hour or 2.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
Aw quit psyching yourself out, Hambone. Wires have origins and destinations. Your ohmmeter can help you establish that origin and destination are all that the wire is doing, not sneaking out for a short against the body or an open circuit.hambone wrote:All those wires, going willy-nilly in different directions, oh man where do you start???
Follow your diagram and nice and easy, go look for the actual wires that correspond. Then check them.
