We are on the eve of the head transplant.
Quite a little appointment with wdollie6. Arrived after a night of rain to admire his lovely 1966 Beetle:
Backed into the east garage bay like I own the place or sumpin':
Got to work assessing the results of his four wheel computer alignment.
(based on reading his tires, I do not think much of the computer wheel alignment results)
Measured his rear wheel camber and decided to set the new camber to my own experience ( + 1/2 to 1*
camber unladen and added 10' toe out).
Replaced the spring plate bushings on the right side, reset the camber and toe and jacked up the spring plate past the lower stop so we could hammer the spring plate inwards and install the cover plate:
Went over to the left side, and conducted the same operation with a bit more facility.
As we hammered the spring plate inward over the stop, both jack stands collapsed.
Both. Collapsed. Simultaneously.
The car is sitting on the engine, the left suspension being all apart, mushed up into the wheel well. You can see the triangular base of the jack stand scrunched under the car:
I have been heckled by folks in the past to always use jack stands and not to reply on a hydraulic jack, but both of these jack stands folded simultaneously. So, no, I do not believe in jack stands any more than a well-maintained floor jack which I doubt would have let go with such immediacy as these TWO jack stands with their barely bent sheet metal legs ... :
Had anyone been under the car, I expect they would have been asphyxiated as I tried to find a lifting point with the floor jack to then get another floor jack to lift the nose cone mount area.

We got the car all together, straightened out the right rear backing plate which got bashed on the way down, and took a test drive, and it rained of course, and it looks like our "season-to-taste" alignment did good as the tread contact patterns look pretty good.
Tomorrow, the temperatures plummet to 54*/38* just in time for my engine surgery. Terrible, isn't it? Just typical Lord God Creator tormenting me me me, huh?
Naah, wdollie6 has Radiant Floor Heating in the garage ...
