I've drooled over pictures of every campsite you've posted, but for a weekend camp 2112 miles round trip... At 58mph, carry the two...

That's 38 hours of driving time just to get there... :)

One day!

Wow! That is a haul. How far to S. Oregon? Lots of wilderness there too...and N. California too...I love the West.
Well if you ever get up here you'd have a place to berth your yacht.

You are always busy! So it goes, I know your priority is buying rusty stuff. But man take a break once in a while and come drink beer in the wilds. When are enough old washing machines enough????? Oho. Mebbe later this summer.

224 to 46, just like going to Big Bottom, except you take a LEFT on FS42. Rock Spring is Plan B, about a mile to the West.
There are also directions on those Google Book links.

I have never been here, not sure what to expect. Tons of history though, I'm sure the Natives were all over the place, trails and lakes and springs...

I am soooooo broke but I'm damned determined to make this happen. Eva will be with me, will probably be staying until Tues.

"Further down the road we visited Summit Lake. A mile off the road down an upgraded gravel road, it features picnic tables but no other facilities. The maps show a creek entering and exiting this lake, but in reality none exists at any time of the year. Springs and underground drainage must exist to keep the water level even. It will drop less than two feet from its depth during our visit by the end of summer. A similar rise would overtop the road, which judging from the complete lack of erosion never happens. This lake is inhabited by very shy ducks who keep to the untracked east shore away from people. Colorful dragonflys abound, and huckleberries fill the forest floor. At 4200 feet, this lake has both low and high elevation trees."

Peavine
Established in the 1920's with a camp and a tree platform, a 40' L-4 tower replaced it in 1933. A 41' treated timber tower with ODF live-in cab, built in 1961 3/4 mile northeast of the original site, was being staffed until recently. Structure inspections revealed dry rot in the tower, resulting in it being burned to the ground November 20th, 2006.
