I am seriously considering a week, starting on the 11th...I have the time and really want to make the most of it - the summer and that special place way the hell out there, both linked unless yer an Inuit.
Since I'd be up there for so long, I'd sure like some company! I may be solo, not sure yet...
So SOMEBODY must have a free day or 2.

I have a lighting gig in Portland on the weekend of the 15th. I'll see if I can make things coincide.

Getting ready to pack, not looking like I'll see many of you out there, a real shame. There is no finer place than Hambone in August.

DJ was thinking maybe, as well as Don. I could use some peace anyway, I just don't like exploring abandoned trails alone, especially when I'm not expected home for so long...and I miss camping with you guys.

I'm probably good for a couple of nights! I've been a good boy :thumbleft:

I'll call you tomorrow or Monday. I have a couple of axle boots to install and a bunch more trans oil!

I am still planning on heading out early week, wanted a couple days to myself. Looks like I'll be solo this trip too!
Well whomever shows up you know where ta go. :flower:
I found a BUNCH of new old info about Hambone, old Indian trails, surveys in the 70s including a treasure hunt of compass bearings to find the old trail. It's gonna be a good one. I've been wanting to find the old trail around Iron Mtn. for many years now maybe this year. Can you imagine a many-thousand-year-old trail? Sometimes it makes your hair stand on end.
And then there's the mountains of huckleberry-bear-poop this time of year. Man I do love that place.

Directions, also see the map on page 1:
If you're coming from the Willamette Valley, do this:
OR 224 thru Estacada, past Ripplebrook.
LEFT on 57
Just BEFORE 57 turns to gravel -
LEFT on 58
Climb like a mofo to 4610 at High Rock.
LEFT on 4610, climb more (don't go RIGHT - this is 58 heading east)
look for Abbot Road sign on dirt road heading LEFT at crest of hill. Be very very careful on Abbot, steep narrow and rocky with a dramatic dropoff.
It's about 3 miles to the camp. Once you pass thru the BOULDER ROAD then you're almost there. Camp is on your right.

If you're coming from the Zigzag area, do this:
US26 to 42 to 58, RIGHT/STRAIGHT on 4610 (then follow same as above)

Sorry Hammy. I took Maybelline out the brutal Taylor Burn road last weekend and tweaked the frame a bit and bent the mustache bar, ripping the passenger side motor mount. She's fine, just a slight clunk when the driver door closes, and the motor mount is on the side the engine torques toward, so it'll hold without hopping until I get around to fixing it. Not sure it would be happy on the Abbot Road though, so combined with the threat of T-storms (I saw several fires start within miles of us last weekend) I opted out.

In related news, made it all the way out to the Taylor burn camp. Road is totally passable, comparable to Abbot or maybe Frasier, but 7.5 miles of it. I just was getting a little wild on it. Even got out there to say "I wonder if we are the only bus to ever make it out here?" Then round a bend to see a '74 Rivi with a Pontiac DOHC 4cyl in it, the only other vehicle parked in the camp. There is a ton of room for buses and about 10 trailheads leading to different wildernesses and lakes and springs. I'll post some pics in my thread on it soon.
