Sweet Pea visits Klamath Falls

Post by justgimmecoffee » Sat Jul 18, 2009 3:09 am

I took a trip this past weekend down to Klamath Falls to visit my dad. Here's some pics

Image
An alfalfa field. Its high desert country at 4100 above sea level.

Image
Lost river, just outside of Olene, Oregon.

Image
Antelope in the field. Wildlife eat or destroys 10% of a farmers crop each year.

Image

Image
Not so wildlife in a different field. Mmmm, steak.

Image
When I lived here in the winter of 1984, the temperature didn't get above 20 for an entire week. Today, its 80f.

Image
Truck.

Image
The plant life is all hardy stuff. These are sagebrush and Douglas fir trees.

Image
Lots of wide open space. If you can't stand people, here's home.

Image
Sweet Pea visits the Bodner farm.

Image
John Bodner is in that combine. He's in his 50's and grew up farming this land. His grandparents homesteaded here in 1910 and built their own home and farmed these same fields.

Image
Everybody should live at the end of a long, dirt road at least once in their life.

Image
My dad's lawn ornament. 1963 Volvo and a tractor or three.

Image
but the interior is in good shape.

Image
Lower Klamath Lake.

Image
Highway 97 heading north.

Image
Douglas Fir trees along highway 97.

Image
There was a forest fire here a few years ago. It's already bounced back pretty good.

Image

Image
Fir trees as far as the eye can see.

Image
That's Oregon.

Hiya Barry,

Gotta love those road trip pictures. Thanks for posting 'em up.

By the way, how did the Bus handle the trip?

Funny you should ask. Not as well as I'd hoped. For the longest trip and hottest trip so far, it was a test and she got me there and back which is what counts.

At some point before I arrived in Klamath, she developed a problen: She won't idle steadily and dies frequently at stoplights. Accelerates fine and runs down the road just great but don't let her idle or she'll quit.
On Monday at the Lucky Lab, I raised the idle a bit. Then a bit more. Still, even with a higher idle, the engine "hunts", reving up and down every few seconds and still dying at stoplights. Checked all the vacuum lines and I need to get a few hose clamps.
Need to dig into it but it's been too hot to do anything about it yet.

Amazing pics!!! I love the east side of the Cascades in OR and WA...beautiful country.

For shi*s and giggles next time you get the engine up to temp pop the engine hatch and check to see if the temp sensor II is snug......your symptoms sound strangely the same and my problem ended up being the TS II.

Damn you Randy in Maine :geek:

I take two trips to k-falls each year for work. Once in October and then again in March. It really is a nice drive.
There's something about the honey colored bark on those Ponderosa Pines at the eastern decent of the Cascades that just gets me stoked.

Great pics Barry!

I must have gone through 6 or 7 of those Volvos. Tough as nails(except for the rust problem). Love to have one again, but alas, no space for more cars, no time to fix em, no job to pay for em...
But yeah, I loved those things. British carbs on a Swedish engine controlled by a German electrical system - what's not to love?
