Vintage Weekend - Seattle - July 17-19

Post by MeyerII » Fri Jul 17, 2009 2:24 pm

I don't think this has been mentioned yet - but this is Vintage weekend, currently the biggest show of the year. Tonight (Friday) is the Burgermeet at the University Villiage BurgerMaster. Tomorrow is the all-day show at Shoreline Community College. I think there is another event Sunday, but forget what it is....

Oh yeah, there is a show in Snohomish on Sunday.

Details on the whole event are here: http://www.cascadekombis.org/vintagemeet.shtml

I will be at the Saturday show but don't have time for the other events. I will have the '65 Variant with the Hielite camper - feel free to come up and introduce yourself, I don't bite (unless asked). And forgive me if I forget names sometimes - I'm half senile as it is.

But looking forward to some good weather and catching up with old friends.

The the obligatory shots of our setup at the show. We go from the car through to the red picnic table with the umbrella.

And the things that I took away from the show.

First, we want to make the Variant and Valiant a period-correct camping unit. Up to the time of the show, we had no camping gear. We saw these jugs and thermos bottles for $8 and figured OK, why not pink? They're all Coleman products. We added the jugs to the display then later found that somebody had left us a note saying she had a matching cooler in parts if we wanted it. I called her and left a message saying "why not". When we got back from the awards, there it was!

And lastly, my second in class award - so I beat out one of those T34s:

Thanks! I was mostly stoked at the chance to finally see that Kubel close up, and the barndoor ambulance was a nice surprise.

I missed it. Again. Third year in a row. This event always lands on the busiest weekend of the year for us. Well, maybe next year! Thanks Meyer for sharing!
