Leaking FI pump

Post by tommu » Sat Dec 22, 2018 4:31 pm

My pump is leaking at the body. Is there a reason this would happen? Wondering what I could have done to cause this..

Ouch. Did it suffer any sort of impact in its recent travels? It has a devilishly delicate cauliflower crimp at the top, and it has a little rubber o-ring that has to keep back pressure. The only way this pump can pull off a leak-free seal, ( sure, like the Morton Thiocol shuttle boosters ) is to be perfectly perfectly round at the seal line. My rebuild, where I had to re-fashion the cauliflower crimp, was so damn not-round enough, and you could barely tell, 'cept for the spray of gas.

Yes, dropped but only from a couple of feet.. I had no idea they could be this fragile.

If I could figure out how to do that crimp without distortion . . . or find an unusually compliant slightly bigger o-ring. Save the pump. Maybe we can experiment.
