sliding door retainer bracket

Post by Ritter » Tue May 27, 2008 8:45 am

Anybody have a good picture of the way the spring is supposed to attach on the rear sliding door retainer bracket? It is shown in Fig 5-56 in the Bently manual. Mine is not present so I have to manually engage the lock to keep the slider from closing on my daughters appendages.

Anybody find a suitable replacement or know the part number?

Take a look at this diagram:

If you give me a diagram number, I can get you a part number...

I don't believe it is on that diagram. The part I'm referring to sits in the slide rail underneath the slider cover immediately behind the sliding door and immediately in front of the slider hinge mechanism. Different diagram?

I wonder if a Vanagon would use the same mechanism....

Getting tired of manually locking the door back in it's open position.

NLA..... was part number 211 843 755

It comes with the whole latch, #1, but that is NLA also. Was part number 211 843 740 A.

*ding, ding, ding* Give that man a ciiii-gar! Sorry, it's listed as NLA. That's my biggest gripe about the parts catalog...as soon as a part goes NLA, they delete the part number, too.

Check this, from a type2 syncro:

Number 3 looks kinda close... part number is 251843756A

Figures...

Any idea if there is a similar assembly on a Vanagon? There's an 87 in the yard near me if so... (I just relieved it of its seats last week).

I don't think that's quite it. As near as I can tell from the Bently photo, it looks more like a clothespin-type spring.

If someone could post a photo of the spring, that would be most appreciated. It's not readily apparent how it connects.

Ritter, I'd give Ken at The Bus Co a call. He might be able to find the spring for you.

Still need a picture, Ritter? I'm planning to take off the covers for painting this weekend, and can take a few for you if needed. Just let me know...
