What's a "modern-day" fellow supposed to do when it comes time to replace those confounded hub-cap retaining clips?
The factory riveted them in place, not sure how to replicate here at home with Ma.
I'd be delighted to hear.

you can buy a tool to help with the rivets.

After loosing three of my hubcaps from my wide fives I gave up, drilled out the rivets and used some flat machine screws to hold them on.
3yrs now and no lost caps yet

Screw th' tool, I'm low budget. I like your machine-screw approach. Did you use self-tapping screws? Any nuts?

small machine screws inserted from the back of the wheel with lock nuts. Makes changing broken clips a lot easier too

What he said. Screw the tool and screw the clips (on). That tool sucks. I could never get the rivets to seat correctly and used stainless steel machine screws and lock nuts too.
