A Little Metal Work Kinda Question...........

Post by Bookwus » Tue Mar 03, 2009 6:42 pm

Hiya All,

Just wondering.....................

I picked up a fanshroud today. It's in very good shape but does have a PO added hole about the size of a dime. I was thinking that I could solder a plug in place. Does that sound like a workable idea? I've done a bunch of soldering but always with copper pipes. Will this work on sheet steel? Or, is there a better alternative like epoxy or something?

I'd use epoxy or JB Weld. Maybe with some fiberglass backing.

I know I'm a little late here, but I saw this hole sealing method on ratwell's site last night and thought it me be helpful. Can anyone spare a quarter?

Hiya Ryan,

Hah!

I've seen a dime used as a replacement for the blow-out plug in a carburetor, but I've not the quarter trick. Thanks for sharing.

What I wound up doing was cutting a piece of sheet stock and riveting it in place. I coated the underside of the patch piece with epoxy to insure a good seal. And it seems good to go.
