I've had starters go bad, a few times. The relay will prolong the life of the starter but will not change the inevitable and the starter will eventually need to be replaced. So no "fix" is achieved. Fingers crossed, I've had no trouble with my ignition switch. (Damn, now I've said it, so guess what I'll be dealing with next?)Hippie wrote:Hope this isn't hijacking, but I always figured it was the ignition switches that got weak.LiveonJG wrote:A hot start relay is just a bandaid. Replacing the starter really fix these hot start problems when a relay can "fix" it too?
Neal's trouble could be the ignition switch but it also could be the starter. Based on my experience, it's likely a starter issue. I had hot start relay for a couple of years, and things were ok for a while. Looking back, I wish I had just got another starter.
