cv play

Post by DjEep » Sat Apr 11, 2009 4:43 pm

I was under the bus changing the trans oil and checking torque on the new axle I put on last week, when I noticed that the old axle is a lot "looser".

I can slide the new one back and forth a bit, as to be expected, but it has no lateral play. The old one I can definitely wiggle a bit in place. Is this "normal" for old CV's? Needs a repack? Or does it mean I should bite the bullet and buy another new axle?

I would inspect for cracks or damage and repack. Cvs shoudn't have front to back play but last a long time if greased well. Especialy if money is tight!

Yep, time for a repack and inspection. It's the only way to know.
