old trans fluid = no leaks - new trans fluid = leaks???

Post by Mr Blotto » Fri Sep 15, 2006 10:50 am

A few months back I changed the trans fluid (GL-4). Prior to the change, the trans was bone dry (no leaks). After 3-400 miles after changing the fluid, now notice that there are leaks coming from the axle shafts (on the trans side). Is this a result of the new fluid being "thinner", or just a co-inkydink :joker: ?

Anyone else experience the same thing????

Thanks

Different formula? Maybe the new one has aggressive detergent properties? How bad are the leaks?

Not too bad, but there is always a drop of fluid on the bottom of the housing, and there are "wet" spots from one or both axle shafts. I don't notice spots on the pavement when I park.

It used to be dry all around.

thanks
