Daryl Christensen - AA Transaxle

Post by dtrumbo » Mon Feb 24, 2014 2:12 pm

It is with great sadness that I report that Daryl Christensen, proprietor of AA Transaxle in Duvall, WA lost his second battle with Multiple Myeloma yesterday.

I count myself fortunate to have two of my three VW transaxles rebuilt by Daryl. When I had my second one done, his son was working with him. Perhaps he will continue the work but it's way, way too early to know or ask given the circumstances.

If I hear of any memorial plans, I will pass them along.

Oh, this is so sad for his family, I didn't know him well but I just spoke to Daryl last month and found out he was a fellow Doka owner also he helped me when Colin found my syncro teeth on my tranny drain plug magnet. He gave me some tips how to shift till I could send my gearbox to him. I can't believe I just spoke with him and had a happy talk about my new Doka on Jan 15th.
He asked me if I had a core yet to send him and mentioned his working more with his son.
He was so nice to me on the few calls we had and a couple of emails we exchanged.
I didn't realize he was even sick. :pale:

This is very sad news. In 2010 I was on my way to what was supposed to be my first trip to Maupin. I went to go pick up my friend, who was in Vancouver at the time, and going through Portland my transaxel decided it didn't want to shift into 3rd or 4th anymore. I had heard good things about AA and gave Daryl a call and told him my predicament. Even though he was sick at the time, but was getting better, he said he could have an exchange ready for me in a couple of days. So I yarked out the old one and we borrowed a car and drove up there. It was all ready to go so I gave him my cc info, had a very nice visit, and off we went. To this day it still shifts like butter.

He built an honest product at a fair price, and I hope his son carries on his legacy. He was one of the good ones.

Damn! Too many people in our tribe have been leaving us, Karl, Boston Bob, Bookwus, now Darryl?
One more loss to our VW community. Our knowledge base has just been hit again.

Yes, a sad day as more of the old guys die off. Daryl was a great guy and did excellent work.
