914 case

Post by soulful66 » Sat Jun 30, 2007 9:24 pm

Are there any disadvantages to using a 914 case in a post '71 bus? I am thinking of using one I have for a rbls to eliminate the oil filler pipe and dipstick boot to lessen potential leak points.

Is anyone using this case in their bus? It appears that I would have to check the oil from the top hatch, and adding oil may require greater caution.

Thanks for any input.
Best Regards,
John

I cant think of a reason why not. Ive been building up a 914 block for use in a Bus and i cant find any reasons it wouldnt work. Does the mounting bar line up the same way ?

Everything mounts up the same. The only thing you have to think about is how to fill and check the oil. Oh yea, you cant use 914 engine tin but bus tine will fit properly.

I would use the 914 case if you need a case. I would not use it exclusively as the solution to two infinitesimal possibilities for leaks that can be cured in ten minutes.

Which leaks are you talking about?

The reduction of leaks is one think I was thinking about. The other was to get rid of the oil filler tube to help speedup / ease removal of the fan shroud and alt when needed for extended trips. I also thought that it would allow easier eng removal/installation w/o the oil filler tube. I am pushing 40 now, and would prefer to make working on the bus as easy as possible. Yeah, yeah..I know Colin, I am still a youngster! :profileright:
