Quick question on my throttle cable

Post by Kubelwagen » Mon May 17, 2010 7:33 pm

So, got the new cable threaded through the "tube" on my 81 Vanagon easy, peasy till the last 6 inches or so. Jammed solid, won't go through from either direction.

So, can I wack the "tube" which, at that point, seems to be spring coil with rubber casing and replace it with FI tubing? Or do I need to replace that whole section with actual part?

Thanks,

Michael

Hmm.... talked to Halsey's. Seems this is a no longer available part. On to plan B.....

Your throttle cable isn't available? I can't imagine the '79 cable is any shorter....

No, got the cable. The cable tube was toast - the tube that the cable runs through. There's a piece that runs from just forward of the tranny back to the engine.

Or maybe bicycle brake cable housing which is basically "spring coil with rubber casing".

You know, I think I'm going to do that. I've been out of town and unable to finish up, but bike cable should do great, the cables are basically the same.

Thanks,

Mike
