Yep and high taxes, overcrowded, high cost of living, high health care costs, high illegal immagrant population, high number of unhealthy air pollution days, extreme traffic jams. whats not to like ? Massachusetts is a mini California, just as bad. Now we have a newly elected dem gov. can't wait to see all the new social progams he puts into place.
2 years ago we voted to roll our sales tax back to 5% our elected rep's refuse to do it. I guess Democrats ( our state house is controlled by dems) know whats good for us regardless of what the people vote for.

Bill

Ps: I like Joe Lieberman and I'm glad he got re elected. ya need more dems like him.

NY state tax on gasoline 31.69 cents per gallon, 5th highest in country

North Carolina state tax on gasoline 24.60 cents per gallon 17th in the country.

Those are taxes imposed by your own state. Blue states ride on the backs of the working people.

Bill
umm...
$1.89 - $0.25 = $1.67
$2.57 - $0.32 = $2.25
See... math can be fun!

Bill you really aught to just move to some state south of the Mason-Dixon line. Imagine, you wouldn't have to gripe about anything. Looks like you may have misjudged this election cycle just a tad, but I don't wish to gloat.
Seriously though, looking back at some of your previous posts, I'm beginning to wonder if you're not just pulling our collective chains. I mean, really, who would the terrorists want you to vote for? A few times you've said you're not as right wing as we seem to think you are. I can appreciate being devil's advocate and tweaking the noses of all us wacko left coast liberals.
So, Bill, really, is this a game you are playing or do you really believe the right wing talking points you hide behind?
A PM would be fine if you're not up to answering publicly. Your response will be held in strict confidence.
I'd just really like to know, as one survivor of Catholic school to another.

I like Joe Lieberman also ,but he should have been a vice president by a correct and honest vote long ago and bravo to him for keep-on keeping-on for what he thinks is right.

You sound bitter Bill, can we talk about it? Barb

PS I hear tell Rumsfeild bought a large estate not to far from you a little while ago , must be a great place to retreat to.

No, I'm not bitter, change is good. I hope the dems either send our boys back to crush the civil war or just pull em out.
I only listed the actual gas tax for those two states. There are other state and local sales taxes as well in some states and don't forget the feds tax 18.4 cents. I live on Cape Cod, a little spit of land that has two highway bridges and a railroad bridge for access. We have close to 230,000 year round residents and the population at least doubles in the summer. We had an article in the paper recently about why gas was 0.30 or so higher on Cape than just off Cape the reporter concluded because they can.
Rummy resigning or getting fired ( fired most likely ) is a good thing too.
I do intend to move to a socalled red state after I retire. A state where if you want to build a shed on your property your neighbors offer help instead of trying to prevent you from building.
If you search population growth and loss by state you will find a trend toward the blue states losing population and red states gaining population. Note that I said TREND some blue states such as California are still growing but at a slower rate.
No, I'm not yanking chains, I do think this way. I also prefer this site over the other one Because the people here tend to dislike differing views and not the people espousing them.
Our new governor elect wants to give all kinds of rights and benifits to illegal aliens. How do you think legal immagrants that waited in line dotting their I's and crossing their T's feel about that? Who's gonna pay for all these services? Me? I don't mind helping someone getting back on their feet, but I'm not a socialist.

Sorry that this post is all over the place and not structured very well, but I'm a lousy typeist and posting long posts with the research involved for my points gets tedious.

I will just comment on the one point I show above....
Not mentioning the site you are probably referring too, but what a difference,,,,if any of us tried to share our views on there, forget about intelligent talk, we'd get,,,Get the F out of here,,, Your stupid, your a moron,,, F you you terror loving bitch...
In other words, you couldn't have a discussion, and that is sad......People so believe certain things yet they can't talk to you about why.....Now there is one of the greatest examples of someone who has no clue why they believe what they believe,,,, they just believe it cause someone shit it into their head.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating... I don't mind one bit paying taxes to pull my weight in society. I don't buy the idea that taxes are a dirty word. I only care HOW my tax dollars are spent. If they are spent for the good of the whole and for the good of the planet... if they are spent on the things that the American public has proven to be its priorities time and time again, that's a good thing.

And I'll tell ya this: The red, red state of Arizona and all of it's 60-99 year old voters is about to lose one more person to the wonderful, progressive state of Oregon. A state with high taxes that are used to develop earth-friendly mass transit, make businesses actually adhere to environmental policies (which the business there are happy to do, by the way)... a state where the Governor has tried to make all state agencies run on 100% renewable energy by 2010 and will now be able to make that reality with the Dems in charge... and yes, a state where a person has to think before they build. I'm not talking so much about building a shed, but about development strategies.

Here in Arizona they blow the tops off of mountains to create a flat spot large enough to set a Mall or a Wal Mart. (Everyone involved in that kind of project deserves a bullet.)

Taxes are good. I always find it funny that conservatives are always pointing the finger at people on welfare for milking the system and then turning around and voting based almost exclusively on tax rates... if being resistant to paying taxes isn't looking for a free ride, I don't know what is!

Give me high taxes and a conscientious group of leaders I can trust to spend the money in the interest of the public and I'll be a happy camper.

And gasoline should be taxed like a motherfarter, in my opinion. Given the negative impact that combustion engines have on society, tax money should be collected to fund programs and policies that counteract that damage.

I camped at that blown off mountain top WalMart. . . . near that casino hotel abomination at the other hilltop.

That was the morning where that homeless guy told me I was going to Hell along with all other denizens of Planet Earth.

Across the street was the other mountain top... literally with a full-sized mall there now. Five years ago, that was beautiful land.

The development here will have no end, literally. The policy makers have no sense at all, no conscience, no foresight. It's a disaster. And it all stems from the typically-conservative, Old West "don't tell ME what to do" mentality. Bunch of wannabe cowboys.

Thanks! We're visiting for a week the first week of December. (It won't be raining, will it? LOL) I'm sold on Portland as a phenomenon... I believe it's the best city in the country at present... but I want to sell my wife on it. So we'll visit Portland for a day, visit our friends in McMinnville for a couple days, then head to Corvallis to scope out jobs, schools, etc.

I'll be working a day alongside my friend, make sure that solar energy is truly what I want to dedicate the next decade(s) to.

Anyway... yep, really really excited. :bounce: We're hoping to have our house sold here and be in Corvallis by February or so.

I haven't paid attention to gas prices in months, probably years. I've always been that way. Paying an extra $2 per tank just never seemed like a big deal to me when it goes up $.10.

I pay a lot of attention to the American public's reactions to rising gas prices, though.
