Looks good to me. Firefox complains about mixed content as we're linking to images not protected by https, but that shouldn't block people from accessing the site for now.

Um, is there any way to get more real estate at the top? This 217 height pixel limit is killing the muse!

yes make as tall as you want. There is no limit. Just aesthetics.

Can I do side curtains like the above with an illustration in the middle, so people can have different size screens/windows and the rendering knows to close the sides down before it impinges on the main illustration? Do I know what I am asking here? Hardly.

not currently, it is just one image - it will scale down and up to the max width.
