Happy New Year! 2018

Post by Amskeptic » Mon Jan 01, 2018 11:11 am

Happy New Year.

That last year couldn't leave fast enough as far as I am concerned, except for the ONE thing that I adored, and it passed by way too fast (the magnificent total eclipse).

Things are looking up.

Already, the Buffalo Bills have almost accidentally found themselves in the playoffs for the first time in eighteen years. Like my fellow upstate NY brethren, I was deliriously happy to see both a victory against the Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals sneak in a winning touchdown against the Ravens with the 44 seconds remaining . The Buffalo Bills home office sent out a thank-you and a promise to ship down an order of wings to the Bengals.

Eighteen years of long-suffering loyalty. Eighteen years of witnessing questionable decisions in the home office.

So this new year needs to be our Nation's push to get into the playoffs. Virginia was the Dolphins victory, Alabama was the unexpected Bengals touchdown. I will be working all year to help the midterm elections in November be a proper referendum of my fellow citizens' goals for our future.

I must also work to set a course for my career, this website, and the direction we all must embark upon to keep our air-cooled VWs healthy happy and capable. Flexibility and creativity will be required.

Happy New Year! I don't really follow sports, but I rang in the new year with a trip to Cloudland Canyon and camped out for three days. It was cold, but beautiful and relaxing.

I have a list of things I want to continue fixing on the bus, but I certainly hope 2018 bring more trips like this one.

Happy New Year to all on here. My little one painted this and gave it to me for xmas. It was by far my favorite present (even tho it wasn't a bay!).

That is very well-proportioned from the vantage of a smaller-than-adult-size artist's eye.

Until I was 14, my roofs were always too skinny, because I could not see much above the gutter line, and the bumpers were always pretty substantial.

Good for her!

Happy New Year everyone!

I rang in the new year by smoking a couple of pork butts.

Tomorrow I will be purchasing my first watercooled vehicle since 2003. I'll still have the bus, but I can do some larger projects to it and have something else to drive at the same time. Ive used AC busses as daily drivers since 2004, and while the climate here does allow for that, I have some much needed rust eradication and other projects that just can't be banged out over the weekend. It's a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country. In a way, it reminds me of what drew people to busses a while back when their first owners were done with them - they are pretty cheap to pick up and are ridiculously utilitarian. This one has under 70K miles on it and is cheaper than most busses on the market today.

My most recent hobby has been smoking meats and fish. Pork Butts are pretty easy to get right, but that said I can honestly say i freakin nailed these ones.

For New Years Eve, I invited a bunch of friends over we jammed in the new year, playing music from 7pm to 2018. Lessee ... four guitars, mandolin, keyboard, autoharp. Good time.

We didn't have any pork butts around, so we smoked something else.

My shoulder's giving me grief, so I decided not to go to Buses By the Bridge this year. I sent six copies of my book down with the Kombi Haus people for raffle prizes. I resolve to get better by our first local campout, the Soup Or Bowl at Rio Vista in February, particularly since I'm supposedly the guy in charge.

Have a happy new year! I hope to see some of you in the year ahead, at Maupin, or somewhere on the Funway.
