(I also dislike the way our page layout now crams people's posts up against the prior post. What is that about? So people don't have to scroll their little phone screens as much?)

im not sure what you mean by this- can you post a picture? :cyclopsani:
Look at my post here. I have double-spaced it down from your words just above. When it posts, it will be crammed up just under the grey border. I try to remember to do four spaces down to match the old automatic double-space.

also there should be no problem using attachment feature to post multiple images

Can I load up "my gallery" here with 2400x3200 bit photographs?

Colin

Do you know the total size of all your photos? It would be interesting to compare that to the hosting limit on this server.

Is there any way to configure phpBB gallery to store files in AWS S3? That would be the most resilient way for Colin and forum - and not too expensive. Pricing: https://aws.amazon.com/s3/pricing/

EDIT: Would this be the extension to allow uploaded files (photos) to be stored in AWS: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extension/aws_s3/
that looks really good tommu. It may be a bit over my head to set up.

If its within your abilities could connect with colin and randy to get it sorted?

I will not pretend to be an expert. I have not administered phpBB but I am happy to get involved. This extension is a workaround to phpBB's current architecture allowing usage of cheap object storage. I'll can set up a test forum to see how it behaves.

I tested a bit more and that extension is not helpful for this situation - files are uploaded to the local filesystem as well as to Amazon S3 storage. Looks like it was intended to support load balancing rather than just making use of a different storage location..

I would not be talking about loading every itinerary picture to the Samba gallery, but I would be happy to backup the technical and sticky "how to" articles on here in an interim gallery to keep the quality content alive.

I've been linking to the IAC pictorials a lot recently, as people on a few forums seem to be asking about rear wheel bearing repacks, differential side seals, and AFM adjustments quite a bit in the last few weeks. I'd personally hate to see those rescources go, because they're clearer and more concise that my writing.

Testing google photos:
Image

It works and is an excellent service for an online album., but the third party link is huge and maybe not so user-friendly. They really try to keep you within the Google eco-system.

I read a lot of people migrating to Smugmug: https://www.smugmug.com/plans/basic. It's a paid service and thats all they do. Might be a little more customer focused than the free services.

How bad are those lifters?

Hi Tommu,

From what I read, the Google Photos links are not intended to be permanent. They are supposed to last for a bit, then go away. It will be interesting to see how long your picture stays with the post. Currently, I am experimenting with Imgur, but am open to suggestions.

Last summer I posted these photos of Colin's visit and the aftermath using google photos. They're still up nearly a year later so maybe the links work long term?
They are in a shared google photos album.

That's all I've got

As of this moment, I am going to pony up the ransom and call it a "business expense" on my taxes. It is too daunting to do a clean migration/re-link. I think the Photobucket people knew this from the get-go, that some of us would get in too deep and be at their mercy. I gots to get me a pitchfork and engrave the name of Photobucket's CEO on the handle.

Indeed, this isn't too bad at all - once you realize where the 'attachments' tab is in the reply window and see that you can upload your pics while posting to the thread all in the same action. The beats the heck out of having to upload images and then get the codes and then go create your post and copy/paste those image URL's into the thread.

Can you share them outside of the forum?

When I need to post a photo here, I first upload it to an unpublished blogger blog post. It (the picture) then has an address which I suss out of the HTML and use here.
Maybe it's easier to do in Google Photos, maybe all the images I upload to blogger end up in Google Photos anyway. I dunno. But it's worked for me for years without issue.
