Run over to the Omega Institute outside Rhinebeck, and get a fair share of enlightenment...I drove that highway you're on back in August on my bus trip, for which you can take direct credit! If you get down by Ellenville, stop at Cohen's Bakery for some wonderful treats...

I'll be in Ellenville on the 10th . . . I could score an apple turnover and a hot cup of serious coffee along with my enlightenment.

Internationalist? It's probably about as close to a foreign country as you can get without leaving US territory.

The only reason my family could afford to go was because we had friends working at Roosey Roads NAS with a spare granny unit at their house where we could stay. If we'd had to pay lodging on top of airfare, it never would've happened...

Down to its most intimate exhaust plumbing, I do.
I miss that surrounding summerscape, I do, too.

Hello Deschutestrout, I am a newbie here but Puerto Rico is part of my territory for work
(based in Florida) so I travel there a few times a year since I became a territory rep.
(Currently I work for Bosch's speaker and comm division and yes it' the same auto parts Bosch! )
If you let me know what kind of experience you are looking for I can make some suggestions
on where to stay. Do you want the full tourist hotel and super safe but mucho expensive place?
That's the other side of the island Fajardo area like the Conquistador resort (REALLY NICE),
the tourist segregated area of Condado with good hotels (near San Juan side),
or the "guest house" style place with a hostel side and a villa side in Ocean Park area (also near San Juan)
but more basic and "down to earth" than a hotel that's more like staying in someones guest house.
but much easier on the wallet.
Feel free to PM me for my number if you would like to chat on the phone too.
Cheers!

Thank you! If that's where we decide to go, I'll be in touch! Mark

If you are into diving and snorkeling, I recommend Bonaire (Caribbean Netherlands). Much less touristy than Aruba, not as American as Puerto Rico, and very beautiful and laid back. (Not a single traffic light on the island.) If you pick the right week and we don't need it, I'll give you a great deal on our house.

Bonaire is nice for diving true but its pretty small island. I am in Trinidad now which is nice but not as safe. Food here is excellent and now onto Suriname!!
