Hardware Tumbler?

Post by Randy in Maine » Fri Mar 29, 2013 4:33 pm

I am thinking about buying one of these, (mostly because I have some room on my new workbench and I have a gob of mungy hardware)....

Anybody ever use one of these? Thoughts please...

I have one that is similar to this one from HF and I use it a lot. It works well to clean up rusty nuts and bolts. My only complaint/comment is that it is loud, but I think that is the nature of the beast. Get it, you will be glad you did.

I think I will pick one up.

Any suggestions on abrasives to use?

I use the green plastic pyramids for rust removal and walnut hulls for polishing.

Do note that you will also have to get the correct polishing agent to really get that zing out of the polishing.

Interesting. Where is a good place to get stuff like that and walnut shells?

I also have one of these benchtop polisher gizmos in 3/4 HP with the various polishing compounds.

I'm assuming the media is kind of a one use application, correct me if I'm wrong.

Well I ordered up the tumbler, 5# of the green pryamids and 25# of fine walnut shells. $93 delivered. It should be here in about a week.

I reuse the pryamids over and over until they lose their edge. After each use I rinse them with water and dry them for the next use. I don't know if washing away the dusty debris helps, but it makes me feel better. :compress:
