A nice ACVW suprise at the pick & pull

Post by Mr Blotto » Wed Mar 27, 2013 12:23 pm

Was doing some work near the WI/IL border and decided to swing by a few bone yards - was surprised to see a few ACWVs - they are NOT common in the yards around here. The beetle had both heads in the trunk, and the squareback had 3/4 of a longblock sitting in front of it. This climate is so hard on these cars.... :pale:

Man, I would like to see these cars saved. It is hard watching them retreat back into the ore from which they came.

Yea - that beetle was decent with the exception of the ENTIRE floor/pan. Way too big of a project for me! Must have been a gem back in the day. The squareback was so badly gone. Too bad I didn't see any buses....only seen two (ever) in a junk yard around here.

That left rear quarter shot of the bug beached on rims or something, just looks like it wants to drive away. Like it is supposed to.

I tell you what - that thing was solid! The doors shut with a very solid THUD. No rattles. The door handles - solid. The mirrors - solid. The vent window mechanism opened and closed like new. So well built. Someone needs to take all the glass from that thing - all original and in great shape. Even the window rubber was in decent shape. I was amazed at the interior of that beetle too. All METAL, and not the thin stuff. Even the glovebox shut with a THUD. I was never in an early beetle before....

Perhaps I should go back and grab all the glass....

And the bumpers, and seats, anything that will come off. Steering box? Did you get the heads?
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
