That there is funny!rallybug wrote:No specific vehicle, but any that fit the MAV criteria - Mormon Assault Vehicle.
I see that in what I call "vacation states", too. Go out to Colorado, Outbacks, Foresters, Toyota Tacomas, Nissan Frontiers.Randy in Maine wrote:Subaru Outbacks and Foresters.

Come to Iowa, nothing but domestic branded kid haulers and farm sized pickups. You don't move to Iowa to baja around the wilderness with a car full of backpacks; you move to Iowa to raise kids and work in accounting departments. Plus our population's average age is second only to Florida in geriatrics.
Funny I can't buy off-the-shelf accessories for the biggest selling sport trucks in the USA (Tacoma and Frontier), they only have Ford Chevy and Dodge fits. Out west, they probably don't even know Chevy still makes a midsize pickup.

I wouldn't have known Toyota still made (relatively) small trucks if I hadn't seen a recent-model Hilux running around with Mexican Consular plates on it .. but there's plenty of Chevy Colorado's running around in this part of the west.Hippie wrote: probably don't even know Chevy still makes a midsize pickup.
Around here, copycat car seems to be a tossup between the Subaru wagon and the Prius...

Well I guess I never been to the PNW to see that. But everywhere else out west I've been, see the big sellers predominate.
(I like the Chevy Colorados OK, except for the styling. The grill/headlight assembly looks like it is on upside down to me. But everyone has their own taste.)

The Colorado will have new stying next year (2013) and may be available with a turbo diesel (they claim).

A turbo diesel might be a worthwhile offering. As for styling, I just don't like the current front ends. Glad to see a facelift there.Randy in Maine wrote:The Colorado will have new stying next year (2013) and may be available with a turbo diesel (they claim).
BTW, Do you still have your Jeep Comanche?
I saw a really nice clean example of the Rabbit based VW mini-truck Saturday night. Those are cool. Want one.tristessa wrote:..now if we could get the VW Amarok or a revival of the Pointer pickup.

I saw one up close in person last fall, someone bought it in Mexico and brought it home to Portland. Not *legally* mind you, but it's floating around town .. running on eight-year-expired Mexican plates.

I've never been in that kind of demographic. I still despise Firebird and that ilk from the mid-seventies.
