I started going that route, soaking and chipping, soaking and drilling w/a cable, etc.

After about an hour I decided that I'd rather just spend $50 on a new OEM one from aircooled.net

I kept the old one though, I guess in case I desperately needed something to occupy myself with over the winter.

Thanks, for $50 I may just do that. OE VW! Pretty cool. Did it seem to be German quality?
