PHRED Has Bumpers!
With Colin's assistance I bought Jeffrey bumpers for Phred for Christmas this past year. J has been hammering them smooth, added some bondo, primered and finally today painted and installed them on Phred. They look fabulous.
Good work, Jeffrey! =D>
There's still obviously exterior stuff to fix, but I think the interior is the next thing to work on. I'd really like to get Phred and J new seats for his birthday, but we'll see how it goes!

Thanks! And yes, I really do!Oregon72 wrote:Looks really nice Z - =D> a nicely painted straight set of bumpers really make a difference. Redone seats are one of the many things on my list as well.

It's a 1971. I found the last decent pair of bumpers in Texas quite by accident at Austin Veedub on a '70 Westy that had been pulled in not three days prior to Christmas. Knowing that these bumpers are getting rare, I forced their Blair budget to absorb them NOW.chitwnvw wrote:Yah, what year is Phred? That middle window, non slider, non camper window is really striking. You have yourself a real show horse.
Jeffrey has a good blacksmith's touch on the minor metal straightening that was required.

I hunted for ages for a rear '72 bumper; they were unique that year. They can be had, but shipping sure hikes up the total cost so was trying to keep my search local.Amskeptic wrote: It's a 1971. Finally found one with a trailer hitch, then some other guy also wanted it so had to wait out the situation - but got it.
Then came the "fine tuning". Dents and bends turn out to be a bigger deal than they first appear, the hitch was poorly welded so I had to do that over, the frame had to be welded to receive the (also one-year-only) bumper mounts, etc...way more work than anticpated. Like everything else.
But what a difference having it installed! Changes the whole look of the thing. Great improvement.

Beautiful. Nothing says I love my bus than some nice straight, white bumpers.
The best navigators aren't sure where they're going until they get there. And then they're still not sure.
