Bus prices have skyrocketed lately, WTF.
Getting harder for me to drive around without a care . . . .

I know, me too. And I drive this sucker year-round. This stratified wealth situation really sucks.

look at the bright side Hammie... we were lucky enough to purchase ours when prices were affordable, so that we can enjoy and appreciate these elegantly simple engineered marvels. Even with the issues mine has, I figured I it is probably worth $10k. I bought it for 3k 12 years ago. I would have to think very long and hard to spend that kind of dough on something that I can only use 6 mos of the year (too much salt around here).

Speaking of which...my wife and I took the bus out about a month ago when we had unseasonably warm weather (it was in the high 40's/low 50's and the sun was out .... typically don't see the sun or anywhere near that temp from Dec until April). She commented that the view out of the bus was very similar to riding on a motorcycle. I got a big grin on my face, and said yup, you can attribute that to the big bay window and no hood out in front. :flower:

I love my Bus. It is amazing that it is still utilitarian 50 years later. A Model "A" Ford would be a deathtrap on today's highways. Well, so is a Bus BUT NEVER MIND THAT.
I don't covet it, it's just sort of irreplaceable now. Even Bus2 didn't have the same soul, drywall instead of lathe and plaster. Rust and rain, this is the first time she sits in the garage in 14 years. Yeah just drive it, it's happy to be alive.

NADA values for Westies, with the Type 3s I've owned thrown in for my own edification.

A Bay Bus is not worth those figures.

Decouple from conventional rationality, Hambone.

A Baywindow is exactly "worth" what someone will pay for it. If it is $40,000.00, well, there you go.

In my universe, you cannot replace the baywindow bus experience for any amount of money, so how do I tell someone, "sorry, your $137,000.00 means nothing to me, now step out of the way"??

That thing is a parts bonanza, at the very least. 2500 bucks? If it was in South Florida, I'd buy it. My concern with the escalating prices is that the regular folks, who would drive and maintain a bus, are getting priced out of the market. I want to see these things on the road, not in a museum. Like I did in remote Chaco Canyon, where a couple of 20 something newlyweds were honeymooning in his mom's one family owner '69 tin top. That, for me, is the VW bus story.

Looks nice in the pics. My 1970 automatic Squareback could get 38mpg, back in the day.
