Nose job butt lift
When we got the bus the nose was a jumbled mess of unsanded bondo...after pounding out some dents and sanding down a fesh layer of the stinky pink she was looking like this:
The back corners are MUNCHED and they are next on the sanders list:
Got the nose primered today and it is looking pretty good.

Got the nose done and it ain't perfect but it looks a helluva lot better:
The rear corners before (yikes!):
And after 1 layer of top coat on the passenger side and the drivers side and rear hatch getting prep'd for some final sanding and cleaning:
The PO spray painted the hell out of EVERYTHING, to include the original rear light assemblies et al. A little paint thinner and a razor blade followed up by the dremel with the polishing wheel and compound and they are sparkling like new

Looking good! Man that's a lot of Bondo. And yes wear a mask! That stuff is nasty. Someday you may consider getting a new corner welded in, Bondo is kinda flaky when you patch holes like that. Tends to crack or fall out.
If you're a purist the original color for the bumpers is white.
Pretty sure you can still get that front antenna, but maybe aftermarket...

I'm trying to concentrate on getting it on the road right now, so parts like axle boots, fuel line etc are priority.
Yeah, Wolfsburg West is becoming my best friend....they have pretty much every little part for these things and its good quality.

Good man! Looking forward to seeing it in the woods. You'll eat up the late bays on the steep grades and boulder-roads with that fabulous lowend gearing.

Hi Spiff, I too love Wolfsburg west, spent two yrs of part time job on El to make the Arctic trip. They do make shipping errors at times however, so check out the parts and proper fit before 30 days . Love there catalog -hard copy- for wish list. In our case of non trailer queen splits - it will be a adventure in how well they and other suppliers continue to suppy us. I have faith they will.

Yeah, me too. I hope the folks that restore these things help to keep the parts available and somewhat affordable (depending on what ya get).Elwood wrote:Hi Spiff, I too love Wolfsburg west, spent two yrs of part time job on El to make the Arctic trip. I have one more coat of paint to go on the rear and I will have some "after" photos to post. Been busy lately so I haven't been able to do much...except watch the rain and wind

Very nice looking job man. I wish my 71 were moving along so fast. I did the same thing on the front with pounding and bondo but the grey primer just doesn't look that great. I wish I could get orange paint to repaint the bus but I just can't find anything to match, so I expect to be white, orange and grey for a while :)
