Brake Caliper Q's

The dude at Tassi's said that all front brake calipers from '73 thru to '85 Vanagon were the same. Also, that there were 2 possible types and that i needed to replace with the same brand.

Anybody verify these statements ? neither statement makes a lot of sense..but maybe im wrong. Also the guy at the counter was merely reading it off his laptop, and seemed iffy about the whole subject.

He is correct. '73-up were all compatable with the rotors and spindles. There are two different calipers available, they must be matched for each front wheel. Ate was the early style with punch-in pins and a tent shaped spreader spring. Girling was the cotter pin retained pins with the big airport roof style spreader spring. In any event, they are left/right and have a slightly larger hole for the bolt with the shoulder that pilots the caliper to the spindle.
