Emotional day - sold our Westy (please don't flame me)

Well, the title says it all. After thinking about it for the last year or two, I decided now was the time to sell our beloved bus. I listed it last Monday and I signed the title over this morning. I do not want to get into why I made the decision, nor want to hear that I will regret it. I do regret it. My family regrets it (my 7 year old daughter cried as it was being loaded on the flatbed - no joke). I damn near shed a tear as well. :pale:

I wanted a Westy since I was about 6 years old – the man who lived 2 houses down from us had one. When I saw this one advertised 10 years ago, I decided to take the plunge. Many great memories were had in the 10 years that I owned it. She gave me a few panic attacks, but never left me stranded (except the time that I ran her out of gas). She always perked up after Colin came to town.

Thanks to Colin, and the countless others on this board that have helped me and have been patient with me through several diagnoses, repairs, and personal ordeals. I will always consider all of you guys and gals my friends.

I am spent – a very hard day for us. But, I do believe that the bus is going to a very good owner who will take care of it.
I will return to own a Westy someday, but in the meantime, mind if I stick around here? :flower:

It's a contraption. Family is more important.
When you are ready another one will come to you. They are stray dogs. They get into you.

:angryfire:

I've been there and done that -- not with a Bus specifically, but sixteen years later I'm *still* kicking myself in the butt every now and then for selling my '54 Chevy pickup. It needed a rear end, we were moving to someplace where I wouldn't even have parking for it .. but I still regret doing what I had to do at the time.

It gets easier, but the feeling never entirely goes away...

The day before it left, we took one last trip to the beach, and took one last family photo :-)

Aw man. The memories don't leave with the vehicle but it's still tough.

Sorry to hear about this Mr. Blotto. I don't know if it helps but I have written on my computer so I remember "Life is Change. Nothing is Permanent". I'm sure a new door will open.

It helps, and coming from you, it brings a whole different/new prospective. And as Bob said, "its just a contraption".

I still have seller's remorse. What is it about the sound and smell of an ACVW?

The funny thing is that I find myself still come here and that other place to catch up and learn. Wonder if that will stop....

Don't let it stop! They are really good cars. For the same reason ya don't wear a parka to Hawaii, objects serve our lives.
Why not start a beat up old project in the meantime?

Maybe, but we hope not. If you have any forgotten parts in your garage, sell them to us! That will keep you around! Unless of course you might need them again someday! <wink>

Sorry to hear, but keep it all in perspective....when the time is right, you can get another one. might sound a bit cold, but you gotta put it in perspective. BTW - I've had mind for 10 years now as well.

Damn, Paul. Sorry to hear you sold! Hopefully you got a good, fair price!

Still hope to catch up with you at a Blotto show someday!

Tom

Such a lovely portrait of a once-complete family. . . last time I saw your kid she was a toddler . . . last time I saw your bus, it was an original survivor with only 109,000 miles just like the BobD has now.

(of course you can still visit here and ask us questions about your next Volkswagen purchase, we recommend the best most rust-free example you can afford)

Emotional is right, just reading this is tough. I'm sure a lot of thought went into the decision and life goes on. You were the one who introduced me to this place. Thanks for that.

My wife is on me to sell our Westy this summer. Ugh :pale:

Where did the Westy end up?
