Hello there,
I have been away for a long time.
I wish you all, my best for Xmas 2014.
I wonder about the T2 Westfalia Pop Top.
Mine has the luggage rack in front. When popped up, the rear lifts a little at the back of the bus, while the front raises way up giving a window to look over the front cabin.
My son, who is in Australia, sent me a picture of a nice T2 that looks much like mine, BUT the pop top is the other way around.
He says, he uses to see quite a few, that are all popping their top, the opposite as mine. Mine is a US 1974 model.
Which way, are T2 Westfalia pop tops ?
Is there a rule about US market versus Australian market ? I suspect safety rules.
Cheers.
Twinfalls.

Re: T2 Westfalia Pop Top.
1973 and earlier the hinge is at the front and luggage rack is at the rear, 1974 and later the hinge is at the rear and luggage rack is at the front. Someone told me once that too many people were driving around with the top popped, so they flipped it to the position that makes it more obvious (aerodynamics, I guess?) that you shouldn't do that. I regard this explanation as a handy little bit of b.s., however.

Re: T2 Westfalia Pop Top.
I agree. Driving, top popped is obvious BS to me.
Hinges positions you mention do make sense to me. US 1973 vesus US 1974.
However, I wonder about Australia where my son tell me, all are with the hinge at the front and luggage rack at the rear.

Re: T2 Westfalia Pop Top.
There are many different camper conversions in Australia, but I think the actual Westfalia camper made the hinge switch in '74 with the rest of the world.twinfalls wrote:I agree. Driving, top popped is obvious BS to me.

Good to see you round these parts!
