Lost a hubcap

Post by sped372 » Fri Jul 05, 2013 5:23 am

On our last camping trip. My guess is it happened on a stretch of super bumpy and pocked concrete that was in desperate need of repair, but we didn't have any luck spotting it when we came back through on the way home. Anyone got a decent spare laying around? Strangely, none of the classified posters on TS are answering my emails.

Chrome moon VW logo? Cheap new crap available from Wolfsberg West. The "good" ones are $100.00 each and still look like crap.

Yeah, I'm not going to buy a "new" one. I'll keep hunting for a used one. Poor guy looks like he's missing a shoe.

I know Hambone was buying up hubcaps at the PIR swap meet a few months ago, might drop him a line .. if you're not in a hurry. He's out on the road/in the woods for a couple weeks...

While I'm on the search, is there a telltale way to identify repro vs oem? Markings or anything?

Repros are generally lighter (does it feel like a beer can?), and the stamping of the logo isn't as crisp .. and sometimes isn't actually a VW logo, just a design that's suggestive of it.

Generally.

Ah shucks. I bought a set of two off ePay. $40 shipped wasn't too bad. We're heading out for a long weekend on Friday and I wanted something on there for the trip. Thanks for the offer though!
