I'm also a little concerned about a westy fitting into my garage - so I'll bring a tape measure with me. I read another post about a guy (can't remember who now) who had to let air out his tires to fit inside his garage - doesn't sound fun.
That would be ME!!! :blackeye: :blackeye: :blackeye: :blackeye: :blackeye: :blackeye:

I didn't reply to your OP because you said "auto only". It appears that you might have relaxed this requirement.

I have a 74 dual carb camper. 50K original miles. That's the high performance 1800cc engine, which is in perfect shape. 125 psi compression on all four holes.

Everything's original. No rust whatsoever. It belonged to my father in law and I inherited it. In fact, I drove it into the barn where it was stored for nearly 30 years. It was stored because the clutch was slipping. The oil seal had failed, leaking oil onto the clutch.

With help and supervision from the guys here, I pulled the engine, replaced the entire clutch system, and all of the fuel lines, filters etc. while I was in there. Four brand new Hankook A08 tires. All documented on this forum. When I was done, I drove it to Maupin for the RendezVW, so I'm confident of its reliability.

The stove is gone, as is the propane tank, but the fridge is still installed. It was working, but I can't verify that it still works.

Colin is familiar with this vehicle if you want more info. I have lots of pix. Vehicle is in the Kootenays in BC.

I purchased a Mercedes Sprinter, so it's surplus. The VW is taking up valuable garage space.

Open to reasonable offers.

Thanks for the info glasseye - sounds like a nice bus, I think we're going to keep our search focused on the later bays though. Good luck finding it a new home!

I've found a bus that I might pull the trigger on: http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/3839589415.html

but I'd like to get a VW mechanic to take a look at it first - does anyone have any recommendations are where to take it in Portland/Lake Oswego area?

engine rebuild and wiring were done by a previous owner (no records) so I want to be extra sure that it all gets checked out....

thanks!

Tom at Halsey is generally well thought of I think. The Halsey that's actually on Halsey, not the other one.

Have you driven it?

Looks like it's a different guy than the fellow with the 2 buses.

From the looks of it looks clean, and it's in the Lake O. area, generally known as one of the (very) rich areas. If it lives around there, it's likely a good example.

Also, that VW has a motor home plate, which brings up another interesting thing.
Here in OR, if you register your VW as a motor home - which it technically is - you can have an open container in the back while you're rolling. The downside is that registration fee goes up quite a bit, and depending on what WA says, you may have to go slower.
