I've stopped buying from GoWesty. They seem to have such an attitude that if it isn't a late-model water cooled vanagon then it's junk. Mix that with all the other things they seem to have an attitude about, their prices, and their (seems to me) bad advice and I sent my business elsewhere whenever I can. I hope this doesn't mean that will become more difficult to do.

Granted I'll also post a big "buyer beware" sign out in front of Halsey too after my day with Colin and the "why did you put that it there and like that!!" $igh.

That is a very tall order, I too want to see where this will go.
The thing is I am mainly concerned for you guys are the mechanical parts, such as the heads, valves, main bearings, etc that have to be redone twice before you can actually use it.

I wish that this becomes what you guys are hoping for.

If they are doing their own top dollar restorations they will need heads and thermostats. You think they have enough NOS ones floating around in their private stash to keep their limited restorations going? I can't see them paying for knockoffs of their own products, but only time will tell how serious they really are about this.

Bus Depot appear to be showing genuine parts, too - I just searched for seat belts for my 1979 and they are showing placeholders for what I think are Genuine VW seat belts for non-walkthrough busses (the double seat and the single seat up front).

For prices, I suppose an idea could be gleaned by comparing VW Heritage normal prices to their prices for VW Classic Parts.

While this may be new for GoWesty, it is not actually new. Volkswagen Classic Parts has been around for a number of years now, and I have variously been both a customer of theirs and a supplier to them over those years. If you've bought from the Bus Depot, you almost certainly have Classic Parts on your VW already.

That being said, this has not been the windfall for air-cooled VW owners that one might have hoped. As recently as six weeks ago when I visited them in Wolfsburg, they were quite frank in stating that they see early water cooled parts, not air cooled parts, as their future. What they do offer for air-cooled is a very mixed bag. Some are quality N.O.S. parts that are well worth carrying, but others are the very same modern-day production that I can easily buy elsewhere for less money. So I pick and choose.

Very interesting indeed. Modern VW is something, wanting to sweep their heritage of "last forever" quality under the rug. It makes their current lineup shameful in comparison. Biz is biz (and biz alone) in this day and age.

Just stuck in a Wolfsburg West front edge window felt, the simple straight piece that goes in the slot of the vent window frame. The fabric was tearing from my simple hand pressure to set it in the slot. The tarry backing goo was coming off in my hand. The felt itself balled up and shedded as the window was cranked up and down a few times. I am beside myself with rueful disgust. There is no excuse in the world . . .
