I would take the 65 because of the larger windows ..better visibility. The 65's windshield is almost six inches taller than the one in the 56.

Being inside the 56 is like being in a cave. I find I have to duck down a bit to see out of the windshield and you can't see too much out of the back oval window ...I LOVE IT 8) !

Both are capable mechanically, I wouldn't hesitate to take either one for a X-country trip.

I had a '67 that I should not have sold. My very favorite Volkswagen as far as the classic essential feel that you would want to capture in a time capsule for the future to understand. A similar thing can be said of driving the original BMW 2002.
