Lots of cabbage for a daily driver. And then paint.

Holy crap Ruck, you are actually doing it...

Right on!

I would like to also confirm that American Metal does proper work, NaOH-ed ( base dipped ) my gas tank and came out juuuuust fine. That was $160 in comparison.

Hey, why not? I got four part-time jobs that pay a little better than minimum wage now.

Mmm, pastel blue? The "light" blue, right?
That would definitely brighten up Gretchen, she was always a bit of a dark-sider with that gnarly black paint. =)

Something like this. Black interior. Stock color for 1970, and Gretchen Ghia's original color. Don't know if it was originally two tone yet or not.

Alright, doors off today. Bits and pieces at a time. Have had to drill out another screw (I now know how not to take off a nostril grill), another bolt holding on the wrap around reflector assembly on passenger rear, broke off the bolt integral to the assembly. Cracked assembly anyway, so can futz with it.

The monster philips head bolts on the door hinges should be innarestin' to say the least.

Got the innards of the door out. Just one. Broke nothing. Have poked at paint bubbles. Disheartened, but not discouraged. Monster philips head bolts on the door hinges are still there. One at a time.

Use plenty of PB Blaster and an impact screw driver and you will win the battle.

If impact gun is not available, wailing on the screwdriver with a 4lb or so hammer has similar results. Just ya know, make sure the screwdriver's shaft goes all the way through with a head surface. =P

A little update. Notice the paint bubbling from the rust underneath. Notice the cracked reflector in the wrap around reflector assembly. There's a stud attached to it that holds the assembly to the body. It broke off. Priced a replacement reflector. $43. Ouch.

Image

The other bolt holding the assembly on had a philips head that was stripped out. Drill baby, drill.

Image

This is what it looked like under the driver's side reflector assembly.

Image

And under the passenger side problem child reflector assembly.

Image

Obviously whoever painted couldn't get the assembly off either.

So it goes.
