I used to have your clarity and passion.

Well, I do turn 40 this summer and I've noticed I have fewer clear moments than perplexed ones these days.

Seriously though, we are a country that allows a small number of people to profit greatly off of:

People who are suffering injury and illness...
People who are killing other people in those other people's homeland.

What's okay about that? Anything? And we dare tarnish the noble concept of Capitalism by calling THAT Capitalism?

Today from Robert Reich:

Robert Reich
"I'm in Washington today to deliver a keynote address on the 40th anniversary of Watergate (or, more precisely, when burglar James McCord told Judge Sirica of a "major coverup," leading ultimately to the White House). Watergate is commonly viewed as a scandal that tarnished Americans' image of our government and precipitated a sharp decline in public trust, but in reality the episode showed how well all our system could perform under stress. Congress (anyone remember Sam Ervin?) discharged its obligations honorably. Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox fulfilled their duties with extraordinary judgment and wisdom. The judiciary also rose to the occasion. Even the media -- Woodward, Bernstein, the Washington Post, Walter Cronkite -- behaved courageously. Our system worked. Those responsible were held accountable. Several went to prison. Nixon resigned. In the wake of Watergate, the nation enacted strict campaign finance reforms.

Fast forward. Washington today is a swamp of paralysis and ideological posturing. Tea Party House Republicans are undermining our government from within (Paul Ryan's latest budget is worse than drivel -- it's irresponsible nonsense). The Supreme Court's majority are right-wing zealots whose "Citizen's United" decision opened the floodgates to big money in politics. The media has degenerated into a gaggle of screaming heads, led by Fox News, which regularly and intentionally deceives the public. No one is held accountable for anything -- including the biggest banks whose flagrant abuses of trust led to the worst economy since the Great Depression.

Where's the integrity? Where's the honor? We had it forty years ago (with the obvious exception of the Nixon White House). What happened to it?"

Bought and sold.

We have to keep talking amongst ourselves. We have to stop honoring the values championed at the top. They are shallow, immoral, tedious as hell to watch. We can slowly change what is considered acceptable, but it will take prolonged effort.

We remain engaged, we read, we listen to Limbaugh even, we do not rush to generalize so sweepingly.
When Bernie Sanders is being interviewed, are you going to miss that? When Elizabeth Warren's interviews of the banking regulators is on CSPAN, are you going to miss that?
We have to know what people are saying and *how they think*, so we can provide nuanced answers that show that we were listening to them!

I watch video clips now of all that political stuff going on. TV news is too much about traffic at 7! Weather at 7:15! Shooting at 7:30!....
