Glasseye keeps saying things that suggest these sorts of ideas aren't possible; that we're waiting for some outside force to intervene. I don't accept that ~ I believe that society is simply the sum effect of many small decisions, and that consequently small decisions can have a large effect.

Indeed, those small decisions do make a difference. In fact, I make 'em. I've invested nearly exclusively in responsible corporations since I had enough capital to invest. Usually, they've performed competitively. I probably could have made more money with Philip Morris, but I consistently chose to avoid them.

Here's another example. I'm about to pull the trigger on a new TV. Here, in my home town, it's $599. On Amazon, with free shipping, it's $499. What should I do? It's my hundred bucks.

Oh, and the local guy's profit on this TV? Amazingly, it's just over ten dollars. Will I really make a difference buying local?

That IS a great idea. It would still leave us with the problem that the local guy can only make $10 at a time, but it's a big step in the right direction.

It strikes me as the Libertarian solution to the problem, whereas the Liberal solution might be to force the UberChina TV Outlet, Inc. to pay the local guy $10. I think I might prefer the Liberal solution, but they represent movement toward a market dynamic that puts value on business benefiting local small businessmen.

The gasoline/energy has already been used to get that TV to your local location. That local purchase is also a tad greener.

Liberals, contrary to the demonization they have endured since Reagan, would not force anyone to do any such thing. Liberals would adjust the tax code to make out-sourcing less profitable, yes. Big Business Pig would of course scream about the coming communist take-over.

Yes. There is a difference but I think it is lost on many Republicans. They see no difference between the two. They see both as examples of the company having a dollar stolen from them.
