Propane (all around my brain) Stove Questions
Hey, I see some of you with your fancy @$@$$ 2 burner stoves connected to a propane tank via a line and fittings.
How ja do dat? And how much can I expect to spend?
I don't care if the stove is fancy, but I don't want junk either...
Size is important as well, not much spare room in a bay.
Thank you!

Re: Propane (all around my brain) Stove Questions
I really like my Coleman. It's not cheap but has a nice large surface area and optional griddle you can use with it. The burners are easy to regulate unlike some stoves where it's either on high or low. Good for groups when you get your guiding stuff up and running. It's also fairly light and thin so easy to store. I keep mine in the spare tire cabinet of the bus with plenty of room to spare. I think Warehouse Sports on 82nd carries it. Or used to anyway.

Then just get an accessory hose and reusable bottle and it will hook right up to the regulator of the stove.
I use an 11# which lasts quiet a while.

Then this and you're set.

Re: Propane (all around my brain) Stove Questions
Wow! Great stuff. You saved me a ton of research.
Kirk lemme talk to ya. Do you have anything comparable to the Colemans? Although if I buy new I can write it off...
I remember one of you guys had a tank that seemed too big. How long will a 5lb. last? At least a week I'm sure with just cooking, and I'll bet they're smaller than the 11lb.

Re: Propane (all around my brain) Stove Questions
My 11# fits nicely into a corner of my bus. A 5# will almost surely last a week if used just for cooking. Depends on how much boiling and long simmering you plan on doing. I think that's what Spiffy uses and he said it lasts forever. I'll have my tank with me next weekend so you can take a look at it.

Yeah I think Spiffy has the smaller one. I think I'll go that route. Can you get them locally? Someone on Amazon mentioned shipping is high on them. Maybe Bimart.

Looks like the 5# is only $6 cheaper. You can get all of this stuff locally. I was just using the online links for examples.

Re: Propane (all around my brain) Stove Questions
Bob...check out everyone's set up at Nehalem...should be a lot of options represented. Should be able to find one of the smaller tanks at BiMart or Home Depot...spendy lil buggers. For space, another option is to mount one under your bus...I run a hose off mine to the stove...and believe it or not I generally get a full season out of one tank...crap, now I'm gonna run out at Nehalem for sure...better top it off

Re: Propane (all around my brain) Stove Questions
Yeah I have never had a problem with the 5#'r, it would last 2 weeks of medium intensity cooking on our Coleman. Good size to store as well, fits right under the seat in the 78 and in the back cabinet in the 67. For $70 you can get a very nice working Coleman, ours has electronic ignition (from a AAA battery) that is mucho handy and has worked flawlessly for almost 6 years now (original battery).hambone wrote:Duhhahuuh huh that's right, Nehalem next week! Re: Propane (all around my brain) Stove Questions
Yeah, a two burner coleman and a 5# tank...couple of dutch ovens, good roasting sticks, you'll be good to go. And, take a close look at the shelter I use...hopefully won't have to set it up this year at Nehalem...but will probably set it up anyway...that way it won't rain for sure.
When I was getting into overnight trips with clients I waited until I had deposits from clients and used that to buy gear....focus on booking trips...gear is easy-peasy to get...clients are the challenge...just sayin'

Re: Propane (all around my brain) Stove Questions
Today I gots a 5 lb. tank. Fits nicely under the jump seat. $2 to fill at Uhaul thanks to a "$1 off each fillup" coupon.
I have a question for you pros: where can I buy an adapter for the tank? It has a female end on the valve, and I need a male fitting - the same as those disposable green tanks. I need to get it locally for the upcoming camp trip.
This thing:

Thank you! Now I can make fun of myself for having too much gear.
