1974 Super Beetle - Wobbly REAR passenger tire.
That's right, REAR wheel. The same problem as the front tire except its just the tire and brake drum shaking. I went and bought a 36mm Axle Socket and Breaker Bar yesterday. The nut didn't budge at all. 18" bar with my 155lbs softly bouncing on it.
Any other solutions. Should I jump up and down on the bar?

Wobbles? Or you have lots of play, like loose front wheel bearings? If it has lots of play and the axle nut is snug, the rear wheel bearings are bad.Sluggo wrote:That's right, REAR wheel. If it is an actual wobble, do you have a bent rear wheel?

Re: 1974 Super Beetle - Wobbly REAR passenger tire.
Lot's O' Play. Enough to make the drum scrape the backing plate a little. I was hoping it wasn't the bearings. Never done them but I heard the rear wheel bearings are a bitch. Any helpful advice?Amskeptic wrote:Wobbles? Or you have lots of play, like loose front wheel bearings? If it has lots of play and the axle nut is snug, the rear wheel bearings are bad.

I just read up on the procedure for this and I think it is the bearings. When I shake the wheel the stub axle moves with the drum/wheel.

Thanks. I'll definitely be getting one of those. Seems like it would make things much easier.karl wrote:Get this tool: http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp ... C10%2D7036

So they are just like the front? I've done those. Very easy. If that's the case, the worst part will be the CV joints.Amskeptic wrote:Wheel bearings are easy. A bit of accurate tapping required.
