Re: I? Now? Own? A? Westy??
A Standard 77 Westy has a cooler while the Deluxe has a 12v/120v fridge that runs a battery down in a day. Its a ammonia salt or something in the coils and taking it out and shaking the hell out of it makes it work pretty good.

Well, actually, now that you are the one asking dumb questions stuck in my web of put-on-obtuseness, perhaps I should tell you that Phil never used that terribly coarse uncouth expression to describe his frequent exercise of full volumetric efficiency, I think his term was "balls to the wall", which made sense considering that Ferrari was still equipped with four wheel drum brakes. But refrigerator doors? How about, "even when you leave the refrigerator door open, it stays cold in there, yes sirree Bob."glasseye wrote:Huh? Suitably chastised, I cringe at my uncouthitie. Especially because of the four wheel drum brakes.

Drove this monster pumpkin over to Sylvester's house to burn off some of the bad gasoline mixing with the varnish. Force-logged him in so we could see how many missed PMs actually occurred because *he changed his email address without informing my poor forum software*. All the way back to May 2014, PMs come flooding out of their suspended animation" where are you?"

Re: I? Now? Own? A? Westy??
I'm liking this purchase a lot...glad that you now have a Westy. Perhaps one day, you'll pull into Manuel Diaz's Tree Farm down here in South Florida, and be able to sleep in something that approaches a real bed, amid the rustling of Manny's exotic palms, that he sells to the toll authority in Miami for 8,000.00 a pop. Is that a runon sentence or what? In any event, you now have a vehicle that is like mine, and many other members of the group here, and can can relate to some of the Westfalia charms better, such as the electrical stuff that runs through these things. Or the cabinetry, with the interesting latch mechanisms and peeling formica layers, the sink pump systems, the mysteries of the "Pop-Top", fiberglass care and restoration issues, etc., etc. Welcome to Westy World.

Ah yes, the early steering wheel vs the late rubber one. When did they change it to the rubber ones?Amskeptic wrote:Drove this monster pumpkin over to Sylvester's house to burn off some of the bad gasoline mixing with the varnish. Re: I? Now? Own? A? Westy??
This is not the early early steering wheel, but rather the late early steering wheel with the already fatter spokes and hub and the late horn brass ring. The rubberized steering wheel was introduced in the 1978 model year, so many will claim that they have a '77 with a rubberized steering wheel when it is a '78 model year manufactured in late 1977, glad you asked, any more questions, I can go on, the coffee's great.Bleyseng wrote: Ah yes, the early steering wheel vs the late rubber one. Re: I? Now? Own? A? Westy??
Why is yours cracked? Accident or age?
Mine was cracked when it was stolen as they tore the steering wheel lock thing off to drive it away (when the PO had it). Police found it the next day unharmed except for the steering wheel.
I put on the late bay rubber steering wheel as it's not so damn cold in the winter plus I couldn't find a good used 76-77 one

I have not noted anything like that but better traction.

Colin,
I love it! Looks like Clementines twin Can't wait to see it in person.
How many curtains does it have on the drivers side for the window in front of the tall cabinet? Looks like you have it tucked all the way behind that tall cabinet but then what about the window. Just wonder if I have been missing a section of the curtain all this time...

Re: I? Now? Own? A? Westy??
The early late 76-77 plastic icky wheel seems colder when it's 32 degrees out than the late 78-79 rubbery wheel to me. I hate driving the westy in the winter but it's what I have now. If its not raining I will drive the ghia as it heats up in a couple of minutes.Amskeptic wrote:Accident. Nose has been replaced.
