Meet The New Girl

Post by misszora » Thu Mar 05, 2015 7:07 pm

Hello out there!

Miss Zora has a new sister. A 1969 Beetle. I haven't named her yet. I just adopted her two weeks ago - a wedding present from my mother.

She's in great shape. Has some dings, drips and rust and a big ol' hole in the rear passenger floor but I'm going to learn how to weld that and already have the replacement pan!

I haven't had a bug since the 90's and back then I didn't work on my own vehicle. It'll be a great way to get to know her.

Does this mean the engine is 1200cc?

Nice.. It looks very original and she appears to be wearing her original fenders and bumpers. I hope you keep her stock and get her dialed in.

So much to learn about that year. I want to address the little rust spots right away and just keep her running smoothly. She's a blast!

You have late decklid (1972). Don't know about the "D" case, we will need to perform careful inspection.
What a sweetheart.

I did notice that about the deck lid. It was once light blue. :)
I'm stoked! I took a peek at your itinerary and need to get you a deposit!

I'm pretty sure one rear fender was replaced at some point .. look at the tail light elevations.

Engine is out and sitting over at Hambone's. Heads are getting a valve job - valves were clanking around in the guides. Tins are almost clean - round two tomorrow. New axles, new muffler, gasket kit & main seal purchased, new-to-me tires will happen once she is driving.

Engine lid has a weird thermostatic louvered plastic flappy opening above the license plate with VW part #s on it...have never seen such a contraption. WTF?
