It looks better than the shattered POS that was in it when I purchased it, AND it looks better than the fading, cracking window trim with the chrome/yellow trim coming out on the corners.
I'm one step closer to driving it. Which is better than I was before.

Money hasn't been flowin very good around here yet. I just wanted the windshield obstacle out of the way so I can continue on with others. (Vac. Lines, Master Cyl,etc..) Mabey later the correct seal w/bling can be installed.

Finishing up the sandblasting process, but am a little confused on something.
I have the original fan and another from I believe is a 2L. The original is pretty filthy with chunks of fan belt stuck in the grooves.
The later model one is in much better shape and looks pretty good after a couple of runs through the parts washer.
Can I go ahead and use the Cleaner,later model one?? Or should I bite the bullet and start scraping the crud of the original??
I see it comes apart. Can I dis-assemble to better clean or leave it alone?

I have heard horror stories of not being able to get them back together in a balanced fashion. No personal experience though.

Exactly. DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE FAN. Speaking from personal experience, even if you put the pieces back together with the same orientation they had prior to disassembly, there is enough wiggle room of the pulley on the fan that you will never have it balanced like it was before resulting in a wobbly fan.Kubelwagen wrote:I have heard horror stories of not being able to get them back together in a balanced fashion. Check: WILL NOT TAKE APART.
Thoughts on using the later model fan? The original has a "nipple" with a rubber plug to cover the hub nut. The later model is flat with a key slot.
The original is pretty crusty and will probably take me 2-3 evening cleaning sessions just to get it to the point of the sandblaster.

Got a little work done on the engine today. Pulled the heads, pistons and cylinders to clean / inspect and confirm.
Heads are I didn't think the heads looked too bad

Pistons and cylinders appear to be original VW
I need a little help now.
I was planning on installing some rebuilt heads I purchased a while back
But not sure on my piston/cylinder options and seeks some advice
1. Will 1800 P/C fit with no machining?
2. AA 1700 Pistons are only in flat tops where mine have a slight dish in them... is this okay?
3. Hone and new rings on original pistons and cylinders
