So I have a 10 gram range in their weights, where is an acceptable place to shave from the heavy ones?
As long as I am here, I seem to remember a top and bottom end thing...is that right? A balance on the top end versus bottom end weight?
Got the pistons within a gram, just want to do this as right as I can.

Re: Connecting rods...
Hey Chi,
Here are a couple photos of my rods The 1700 rods had a "tab" on the piston end for balancing. Not certain if the rods used in the 1800 or 2liter engines had that or not. You can see mine were done on the crank end and the piston end. Hope this helps.

Re: Connecting rods...
While you are matching rods, make all corners smoother for greater strength.
Yes there is an upper match and a lower match, after you have gotten all of the pistons matched, you put lighter upper rods with heavier pistons.

All the pistons are within a gram, but I get the idea.

Re: Connecting rods...
Let me echo Mr Ranch. Getting the drive train balanced as an assembly is SO worth the money. Ayep, last longer, run cooler, better mileage, more horsepower.
