Heyyyy Sluggooooo???
Questions for you. I'm rebuilding a 2.0 L this winter. ordering rebuilt new AMC heads from Adrian @ Headflowmasters in a week or so. Anyway you seem to have done what I want to do. Dual IDF's.
Questions:
Is your engine a 2.0?
You're running 44 IDF's right? I was thinking 40 IDF's.
Are yours Webers?
What exhaust? I have '72-'74 heat exchangers and stock muffler now.
If stock, what are your head temps? Any worries about the restrictive nature of the stock exhaust with the air gulping 44's?
What venturies in the 44's?
More questions to follow.

I'm not sluggo but I fantsize about him alot so... I'll answer what I can.
It is a 2.0 engine. I cant remember what size carbs but hes nearly an expert on those sukkas by now so I'm sure he can atleast get you started on the jetting. We used a "c" grind cam from European Motor works.
Exhaust is Stock styled Dansk. It needed a bit of modifacation to fit. Sounds good, looks good but is it affecting head temps? Sluggo? He had the cheapy duel muffler on there at first. Have you noticed any difference with head temps since the switch?
Adrians heads are very good. they arent as developed as the RAT stuff but you shouldn't have issues if the engine is configured ( cam/CR/deck/displacement) correctly for your type of driving in YOUR vehical.

I believe he's mentioned 44's. I'm pretty good with 'em too, Have 'em on my 2275 type 1 in a Bounty Hunter buggy. Been running'em for about 6 years now.
The Dansk stock repop is what I have on '72-'74 H.E.'s.
This engine is gonna be a bone stock build.
Adrian was Jakes head guy before H.A.M.
This sukka is being built to travel.
I'm going with the Weber's because I know them so well. I can always make 'em run. I use a 1980 Ford Courier electric fuel pump, readily available at most any Flaps.
Really just concerned about head temps with stock exhaust. May end up with ICT's because of these concerns.

Stock '72-'74 exchangers with stock muffler is no different in flow rate to the 914. It is a fine system. Breathing issues only come up with higher displacement at higher rpms than the stock 914 which pulled its maximum hp at 4,900 rpm, you plan on hanging out up there?vdubyah73 wrote:

Not at 4900, but I do run out in the left lane with the big dogs, even now with a beat up valve train and a not so deep knock that is either valve train or cracked head. Thanks Colin, Think I'll go with the 40's. Keep the velocity up for the surface street driving.

Re: Heyyyy Sluggooooo???
Questions:
32 Vents
135 Mains
175 A/C
60 Idle
Floats set at 11mm & 20mm
I'm still working out the jetting. Jake recommendation got me in the ballpark:
Yep! 1.7 converted to 2.0Is your engine a 2.0?
Weber 44 IDFs. I'd go with 40s if I were you. 44 is what came with my Bus. Jake feels they are too beefy and so do I.You're running 44 IDF's right? I was thinking 40 IDF's.
Are yours Webers?
Stock setup. Had the crappy EMPI. When I changed to stock the head temps went down about 35*. Jake is really pushing his Econo-Header. I may give it a shot if I can find one for less than $450.What exhaust? I have '72-'74 heat exchangers and stock muffler now.
Head temps are about 300 normal driving. 350 - 375 freeway (a little more if I'm trying to pas someone or get somewhere fast)If stock, what are your head temps? Any worries about the restrictive nature of the stock exhaust with the air gulping 44's?
Here's my current jetting:What venturies in the 44's?

2 to 4 psi. Been running the same one on my type 1 2275 for about 6 years. First in the bug then the buggy it became. When I rewired my Bus after the po's engine fire I used a new one with 34 ICT's. They were cheap enough 6 years ago about $30 the one for the bus was $70 something. Readily available is the key, no problem getting one when you need it.

I went with the Redline Weber pump. Constant 3.5 PSI and it costs about $70.vdubyah73 wrote:2 to 4 psi. Been running the same one on my type 1 2275 for about 6 years. I spent about $175 on jetting so far and I'm still not completely right. After the holidays I'll be doing my CIS-E conversion. If I'd have known, I could have spent that and had the FI setup already.vdubyah73 wrote:I'll go with 40's. Going with 44's I'd have to change vents and e tubes as well as jetting it. Sounds pricey to detune a set of 44's for a 2.0 when 40's would be closer to whats needed.

I started it but haven't got past the intro. Got kind of busy. I still plan on doing the change.
