IAC In West L.A.
Colin arrived Saturday Morning after visiting Starbucks. My Mom arrived shortly after to pick up my Wife & Son and head off to do some shopping. But when she started to drive away her 7 year old Lincoln Continental Piece Of Crap kept stalling (I hate her car. It started having problems at a few weeks old). Colin made an A/C switch related diagnosis (I forget exactly) and gave Mom a lesson in how to still be able to drive it till it gets fixed by keeping your foot barely on the gas while stopped.

Took a few pics while Colin & Mom were gone. That's my '72 Deluxe hiding in the shadows of the garage.
[albumimg]2693[/albumimg][albumimg]2698[/albumimg]
Then we spent a leisurely day installing a windshield with a new VW seal. It actually did go very easily compared to all the horror stories I read. Colin attributed it to a good factory seal and a well cut windshield.
[albumimg]2703[/albumimg][albumimg]2704[/albumimg]
Then we pulled the side & rear windows & seals from my '72 to put in my '77. That was an experience. Lot's of dishsoap & a filed down toothbrush (just like an install). I had a picture of Colin locked in the rear cargo area but it got screwed up. We installed the rear window but the sides had to wait until I put in the headliner
[albumimg]2702[/albumimg][albumimg]2701[/albumimg]
We also pulled my left heat exchanger to inspect the pulled exhaust stud. Colin recommended a Helicoil and gave a quick lesson on how to use it. Could have used his but it was 8mm and I needed 9mm. No pics. Sorry.
Then Colin said goodbye for the day and headed South.
[albumimg]2690[/albumimg]
After a short rest I got a hair up my butt and decided to start on the headliner. I saw a write up somewhere that said to get about a hundred clothespins. I thought this sounded ridiculous and I was right. You'll need at least 200 to do the whole thing at once.
[albumimg]2705[/albumimg][albumimg]2707[/albumimg]
[albumimg]2708[/albumimg][albumimg]2709[/albumimg]
All in all, a very productive day. Speckled throughout with witty banter & discussions about society & politics. And we talked lot's of smack about all of you.

Likewise...
Speaking of... whatever happened to being Eugene bound?
I was hoping to have another person there to justify some more southerly camp trips....
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....

It would be nice if the Eugene crew was more camp-active, I'd go out that way too.

Re: IAC In West L.A.
Oregon keeps calling us. My Wife & I just signed up for Facebook and have hooked up with bunch of friends. 99% (literally) have moved to Portland or somewhere around it. The rest either went to Northern Wa. or Northern Ca.Gypsie wrote:Speaking of... whatever happened to being Eugene bound?

Our goal is to move to either Eugene or Portland before my Son turns 5. That gives us a year and a half to save up. We'll be going there on our constantly postponed road trip. It's just waiting for me to finish the Bus! I'm so close to done I can taste it! Then I gotta drive it for a few weeks to work out any bugs and make sure it's ready for our trip.

Have you ever noticed that Mayor V calls the city al-A?
I've never noticed that. He has a fairly heavy accent though.
The entire panel you see there is one (cut with a carpet knife) piece. The other side will also be one piece. The roof will be black and in three sections of the same kind of foam backed fabric, glued to wood panels and screwed into wood runners.chitwnvw wrote:Appreciate the pics of the headliner install. Do you install it in panels/pieces? IE. drivers side, rear, roof, etc.

Just noticed that You (Colin) left your filed down toothbrush window install tool here. Was it on accident or on purpose? Either way, Thanks! I found it as I was installing the first side window. Amazing Timing! Want me to mail it to ya?

So, I have a windsheild to install. What's this filed-down toothbrush tool trick? Is it just to make a pointy plastic tool for poking around under the seal?

I'll take a pic later. The end of the handle is filed & carved down to look like a plastic flathead screwdriver. Helps to not scrape the paint & tear the seal.jtauxe wrote:So, I have a windsheild to install. What's this filed-down toothbrush tool trick?
