Annie's Bug
I have to remember to slip this photo into her birthday card when we give her the car on her sixteenth birthday.

So cute!
Although it will not be "her car", my soon-to-be 16 year-old daughter (with a learner's permit) drove the '71 SB Autostick convertible a couple of weeks ago. She loved its compact dimensions, direct steering, and easy control of cruising speed.
But she also made a comment that reaffirmed just how new a driver she is, "I like that when I push down hard on the gas, nothing really happens."

The window sits safely up on a shelf where it won't get broken and I'm driving the crap out of this convertible in this wonderful weather we've been having.Gypsie wrote:D- How's that window btw? Any progress?
The spreader trick we discussed didn't work so I took the car and the window to the auto glass shop across the street from where I work. They couldn't get it in either. They did plant a seed in my pea-brain that might grow into something useful. They asked if the seal was oem or aftermarket. The reason they asked was because they've seen aftermarket window seals (of all makes and models) not fit quite right. Shocking, I know! After Maupin, I'll order a genuine seal from OEVeeDub and we'll see if that makes the difference.

It took two tries, but only because we'd never done it (successfully) before. My wife pulled the string while I pushed like hell on the rubber and it went right in. You can totally tell the difference in the suppleness of the rubber between the German seal from OEVeedub and the West Coast Metric seal bought through CIP. I'd like to sell/give away the WCM seal, but since I know it won't work, I don't have the heart. You'll see it posted in the "belatedly discovered junk" thread very soon.

Hiya Dick,
Sad to say, WCM's reputation for quality rubber products has suffered in the past few years. While I would still buy small rubber parts from them, I too have learned to stay away from any window or door seals from WCM. I definitely go to either OEVeeDub or Wolfsburg West for that sort of thing. Might as well pay a little more once than less twice and save yourself the aggravation in the meantime.dtrumbo wrote:.........You'll see it posted in the "belatedly discovered junk" thread very soon.
