Itinerant Air-Cooled

Its been 17F every morning this last week in Seattle and my 914 is our daily driver now as the Westy is undergoing the windshield repairs.
We go out and this 35 yr old Fi fires up just fine every morning. God, German engineering in nice!
Since the heating system is restored too, the car heats up in a few blocks and defrosts the frozen windshield quickly too.

I only have old aircooled cars now, so that the 914 is so reliable is a big plus.

My 73 Squareback is nothing but reliable... Starts right up no matter what the temperature or how long it has been sitting. Runs smoothly (especially since I put the correct ecu in it). Easy to work on. I think I'm in love...

My '71 911 had ridiculously good heat and exceptional snow traction. These rear-engined air-cooled cars were good stuff in their day.

They're good stuff today also. I'm hiding this post over here, because I'm thinking about ditching the van and going to a 914 or one of the water-cooled 80's Porsches ~ 928 would be my first choice, followed by a 944 Turbo.

Big difference is the driving feel of a 914 vs a 928,944! A 914 is like a early 911 in driving feel, solid, quick and if you up the hp fast.

I agree the 914 would be my first choice. I've been in one once, back in college ~ a classmate had one, which forever shut me up about the "not a real Porsche" thing. It was fun to ride in, more fun to drive I'll bet.

I've always like the looks of the 944/928 (grew up from late 70's to late 80's) and I like the v8 in the latter. Also, they can be had in good condition pretty cheap here in SoCal. The 914s are either pristine (read: expensive) or beat to hell.

yeah but a 914 can be restored for the price of one Dealer service on a 928! I like the 944's alot too mostly the 944S models
